What is parathesis?

Parentheses are punctuation marks that are used to separate or set off expressions, words or clauses within a sentence. They are usually round brackets ( ) and can also be called round brackets or curved brackets.

Some common uses of parentheses are:

  1. To enclose additional information or an explanation that is not essential to the meaning of the sentence. Example: The concert, which was sold out (as usual), was amazing.

  2. To set off a list or set of items. Example: I need to buy some groceries (bread, milk, and eggs).

  3. To indicate an abbreviation or acronym. Example: NASA (National Aeronautics and Space Administration) announced a new mission.

  4. To show a mathematical operation that should be done first. Example: (4 + 2) x 3 = 18.

It is important to use parentheses correctly in writing to avoid confusion and ensure clarity and correctness.
