What is pissarro?

Camille Pissarro (1830-1903) was a Danish-French Impressionist and Neo-Impressionist painter who was born on the island of St. Thomas in the Danish West Indies (now the United States Virgin Islands).

As a child, Pissarro's family moved to Paris, where he lived for most of his life and became a central figure in the Impressionist movement. He was a mentor to several other notable painters of the time, including Paul Cézanne and Paul Gauguin.

Pissarro's paintings often featured rural landscapes, capturing the changing seasons and the effects of light on nature. He was also known for his cityscapes, still lifes, and portraits, which often showcased his use of color and brushwork.

In his later years, Pissarro experimented with Neo-Impressionism, using small dots of pure color to create an overall effect of vibrancy and luminosity.

Today, Pissarro's artwork is highly regarded and sought after by collectors and art enthusiasts around the world.
