What is proxied?

A proxy server is a server that acts as an intermediary for requests from clients seeking resources from other servers. A client connects to the proxy server, requesting some service, such as a file, a web page, or other resource available from a different server. The proxy server evaluates the request as a way to simplify and control their complexity. Today, most proxies are web proxies, facilitating access to content on the World Wide Web and providing anonymity. Proxies can be used to bypass internet censorship, to access content that is geographically restricted, and for privacy and security purposes. They also allow for caching of commonly accessed resources, enabling faster retrieval and reducing bandwidth usage. Proxies can be transparent, meaning that the client does not know that is communicating with a proxy, or explicitly configured, whereby the client must configure the proxy settings in their software or operating system.
