What is qurtubi?

Qurtubi is a surname that is common among Muslims, particularly those from North Africa or the Middle East. It originates from the Arabic word "Qurtuba," which was the name of the city of Cordoba in Spain during the Muslim rule of Al-Andalus. The Qurtubi family has a notable Islamic scholar, Abu 'Abdullah Muhammad ibn Ahmad ibn Abu Bakr al-Ansari al-Qurtubi, who was a Sunni Muslim scholar of the Maliki school of Islamic jurisprudence. He wrote a famous tafsir (exegesis) of the Quran named "Al-Jami'li Ahkam al-Quran," which is considered one of the most important works of Quranic interpretation. Qurtubi died in 1273 CE and is widely respected in the Muslim world for his contributions to Islamic scholarship and Quranic interpretation.
