What is samb?

Samba is a popular open source software suite used to enable file and print sharing between Linux, Unix, Windows and Mac OS X systems. It provides a way for different operating systems to communicate with each other using the Server Message Block (SMB) protocol. Samba includes a set of tools such as smbd (Samba daemon), nmbd (NetBIOS name server daemon), and winbindd (Windows NT domain authentication daemon), which allow users to share files and printers across a network. Samba can be used in both small and large installations and supports a range of advanced features such as security, user authentication, and domain integration. It is widely used in enterprise environments and is particularly useful for establishing file and print servers in mixed OS environments.
