What is sappeur?

Sappeurs, or sappers, are military engineers who specialize in tasks such as building structures, digging trenches, laying mines, and demolishing buildings. They often work in combat zones and are responsible for creating and maintaining infrastructure to support military operations. In addition to their technical skills, sappeurs are typically well-trained in combat and are able to defend themselves and their work. The term "sappeur" has its origins in the French army, but the role of military engineer can be found in many armies around the world.
