What is scylas?

Scylla is a mythological creature from Greek mythology that is often depicted as a sea monster with multiple heads and arms. In some accounts, she is said to have six heads and twelve arms. She is often described as a fierce and terrible creature who preys on sailors and ships that pass through the waters she inhabits.

According to legend, Scylla was once a beautiful sea nymph who caught the attention of the sea god Poseidon. However, her beauty also attracted the jealousy of another sea nymph named Circe, who turned her into a monster with multiple heads and arms.

Scylla is often associated with the Strait of Messina, which separates the Italian mainland from the island of Sicily. In some accounts, she is said to dwell in a cave near the strait and snatch sailors from passing ships.

The story of Scylla and her encounters with the hero Odysseus is famously recounted in Homer's epic poem, The Odyssey.
