What is self-righteous?

Self-righteousness is a behavior that is characterized by an excessive sense of moral superiority and a belief that one's own opinions, views, and actions are inherently right and justifiable. Individuals who display this behavior often judge others harshly and are quick to criticize those who do not share their views or beliefs. They may also engage in virtue signaling, where they publicly demonstrate their moral correctness to gain recognition or approval from others.

Self-righteousness can be detrimental to personal relationships and lead to conflicts and misunderstandings. It can also create barriers between people who are different from each other and limit their ability to understand and empathize with each other.

To combat self-righteousness, it is important to acknowledge one's own fallibility and recognize that other people's perspectives and experiences may be just as valid as one's own. Practicing empathy, active listening, and having an open mind can help break down barriers and create more inclusive and respectful communities.
