Shabeha, also known as Shabiha, is a term used to describe pro-government militias in Syria who are loyal to President Bashar al-Assad. These militias are often made up of Alawites, the same sect as Assad, and are known for their brutal tactics and human rights abuses. Shabeha have been involved in various atrocities during the Syrian civil war, including targeting and killing civilians, torture, and looting. They have been accused of operating outside of the law and committing crimes with impunity. The term "shabeha" is often used pejoratively to refer to these militias and their violent actions.
