What is shippuden?

Shippuden (疾風伝, Shippūden; literally meaning "Hurricane Chronicles") is the second part of the Naruto manga series adaptation. It picks up the story two and a half years after the end of the original Naruto anime, following Naruto Uzumaki and his comrades as they face new, more dangerous threats.

Here are some key aspects of Shippuden:

  • The Akatsuki: This criminal organization, initially operating in the shadows, becomes the primary antagonist for much of the series. Their goal is to capture all the tailed beasts to reshape the world according to their twisted vision of peace.

  • Naruto's Training: Naruto dedicates himself to mastering the Rasengan and eventually learns to harness the power of the Nine-Tailed Fox sealed within him, seeking to control its chakra and use it for good.

  • Sasuke's Quest for Revenge: Sasuke Uchiha continues down a dark path, driven by his desire to avenge his clan by killing his brother, Itachi Uchiha. His pursuit leads him to join forces with Orochimaru and eventually the Akatsuki, making him a formidable opponent for Naruto.

  • The Fourth Shinobi World War: This large-scale conflict pits the Allied Shinobi Forces against the Akatsuki and their reanimated army of powerful ninja, including deceased figures like the previous Kage. The war is a pivotal event that tests the strength and resolve of all the ninja nations.

  • The Unveiling of Tobi/Obito: The masked Akatsuki member Tobi, initially presented as a subordinate, is revealed to be Obito Uchiha, a former teammate of Kakashi. His backstory and connection to the Rinnegan play a crucial role in the unfolding events.

  • The Otsutsuki Clan: As the series progresses, the origins of chakra and the tailed beasts are explored, leading to the introduction of the Otsutsuki Clan, celestial beings who came to Earth seeking the Chakra Fruit. This adds a new layer to the mythology of the Naruto world.
