What is shishupal?

Shishupal (also known as Chhediraj) was a king of the Chedi kingdom in ancient India. He finds mention in the epic Mahabharata. He was the son of Damaghosha and Shruta, who was the sister of Krishna.

According to the Mahabharata, Shishupal was born with three eyes and four arms. His parents were advised that these extra limbs would disappear when a certain person took him on their lap. When Krishna placed the infant on his lap, the extra eye and arms vanished. At the same time, Shruta extracted a promise from Krishna that he would forgive Shishupal for a hundred offenses.

Shishupal was known for his arrogance and his animosity towards Krishna. He was eventually killed by Krishna during the Rajasuya Yajna performed by Yudhishthira, when he insulted Krishna excessively, exceeding the hundred offenses that Krishna had promised to forgive. His death is a significant event in the Mahabharata.
