Simbiontes are organisms that live in a state of symbiosis with another organism. Symbiosis is a close and often long-term interaction between two different species, where both species can benefit from the interaction.
There are three types of symbiotic relationships, mutualism, commensalism and parasitism. In mutualism, both organisms benefit from the interaction. In commensalism, one organism benefits while the other is neither helped nor harmed. In parasitism, one organism benefits at the expense of the other.
Examples of simbiontes include lichens, which are a combination of a fungus and an alga living together in mutualism. Another example is the relationship between corals and zooxanthellae, where the coral provides a safe habitat for the algae, while the algae provide the coral with food.
Simbiontes are present in a variety of ecosystems, including terrestrial, marine and freshwater environments. They play an important role in maintaining the balance of these ecosystems by providing nutrients, enhancing plant growth, and improving soil quality.
