What is sobangcha?

SoBangCha (소방차) was a Korean boy group formed by DSP Entertainment that debuted in 1987. The group has occasionally been credited in the media as being "the first Kpop boy group" due to their popularity in the late 1980s and their impact on the Korean music industry.1

The name SoBangCha translates to "firetruck" in English. The three founding members of the group are Kim Tae-hyung, Jung Won-kwan, and Lee Sang-won.

SoBangCha released 4 albums during their first three years and appeared on numerous television programs. In 1988 they won the KBS Top 10 Award and in 1989 they won the MBC Top 10 Award. The group first disbanded in 1990 and attempted to get back together in 1994 but was unable to achieve the same level of popularity as before.
