What is spenvis?

SPENVIS (SPace ENVironment Information System) is a software tool developed by the European Space Agency (ESA) that provides a suite of tools to evaluate the space environment and its effects on spacecraft and their systems. It is a comprehensive, user-friendly, and adaptable software that can be used for space mission design, analysis, and evaluation.

SPENVIS includes multiple modules that simulate the space environment and calculate the effects of ionizing radiation, charged particles, solar wind, cosmic rays, and other space weather phenomena on the performance and reliability of spacecraft systems, including electrical, electronic, and optical components. The tool also provides information on space debris and atmospheric drag, as well as tools to evaluate radiation shielding, thermal management, and planetary protection measures.

SPENVIS is widely used by space agencies, aerospace companies, and research institutions worldwide, and it is constantly being updated and expanded to incorporate new data and models. The tool is freely available to all users, and ESA provides technical support and training to help users make the most of its capabilities.
