Srirangapatnam is a town situated in the Mandya district of Karnataka state, India. It is located about 15 km from the city of Mysuru and is surrounded by the river Cauvery on one side and its tributary Lokapavani on the other side. It is an important historical and cultural town, having been the capital of the Mysore Kingdom under Tippu Sultan and his father Hyder Ali. The town is known for its magnificent Sriranganatha temple and the fort of Tippu Sultan, which are major tourist attractions. Other notable places of interest include the Gumbaz mausoleum, the Daria Daulat Bagh (summer palace of Tippu Sultan), and the Ranganathittu Bird Sanctuary. Srirangapatnam also has a rich tradition of Carnatic music, with its annual music festival attracting lovers of classical music from all over the world.
