What is tarn?

A tarn is a small, mountainous lake, typically situated in a cirque (a bowl-shaped valley formed by glacial erosion). It is usually formed by glacial activities such as melting ice and snow. Tarns are typically located at high altitudes and can be found in alpine regions all over the world. They are characterized by their crystal-clear waters, surrounded by rocky outcroppings and steep slopes. Tarns are often frequented by hikers and campers, who use them as a source of water and as a place to relax and enjoy the scenic beauty of the surrounding landscape. Some of the famous tarns include Angle Tarn, Grizedale Tarn, and Llyn y Fan Fach.
