What is v-loc?

V-Loc is a brand of absorbable barbed suture made by Covidien (now Medtronic). The suture features V-shaped barbs that are designed to provide stronger tissue holding than traditional sutures, which can potentially decrease the risk of suture failure and wound dehiscence. The barbed design allows for a greater degree of tension to be applied, reducing the number of knots required to close a wound. V-Loc suture is made of a polymer material called Polycaprolactone, which is a biodegradable substance that is broken down by hydrolysis. The suture is available in a range of sizes and configurations, including unidirectional and bidirectional barbs, and is used in a variety of surgical procedures, including general surgery, gynecology, urology, and plastic surgery. It is important to note that the use of V-Loc suture requires specialized training and the appropriate instrumentation.
