What is visceral?

Visceral refers to the internal organs of the body, specifically those in the abdominal cavity such as the liver, intestines, and stomach. These organs are responsible for important physiological functions such as digestion, absorption of nutrients, and regulation of metabolic processes. Unlike the skeletal muscles, which are under voluntary control, the visceral organs are controlled by the autonomic nervous system and are not under conscious control. Diseases and disorders affecting these organs can have serious consequences on overall health. Examples of visceral diseases include cirrhosis of the liver, inflammatory bowel disease, and gastric ulcers.
