What is vishamatma?

Vishamatma is a Sanskrit term that translates to "differentiated soul" or "individual soul." In Hindu philosophy, Vishamatma refers to the individual soul or self that is distinct and separate from the universal soul or cosmic consciousness, known as Atman.

According to Hindu beliefs, each individual possesses their own Vishamatma, which is responsible for their personal identity, thoughts, actions, and experiences. It is believed that the ultimate goal of life is to realize the true nature of the self, which involves recognizing the unity between the individual soul (Vishamatma) and the universal soul (Atman).

Vishamatma is also associated with the concept of karma, as the actions and choices made by the individual soul have consequences that impact their current and future lives. By understanding the nature of the Vishamatma and its connection to the universal soul, individuals can achieve spiritual enlightenment and liberation from the cycle of birth, death, and rebirth (samsara).
