What is wannanosaurus?

Wannanosaurus is a genus of herbivorous dinosaur that lived during the Early Cretaceous period, around 115 million years ago. It belonged to the group of dinosaurs known as iguanodontians, which were characterized by their thumb spikes and ability to walk on two or four legs.

Wannanosaurus was a relatively small dinosaur, measuring around 4-5 meters (13-16 feet) in length and weighing around 500 kilograms (1,100 pounds). It had a beak-like mouth for feeding on plants and a toothless beak at the front of its jaws.

Fossils of Wannanosaurus have been found in China, specifically in the Sichuan province. It was named after the Wannan Basin where the first fossils were discovered.

Overall, Wannanosaurus provides valuable insights into the diversity of dinosaur species that inhabited ancient ecosystems and contributes to our understanding of the evolutionary history of dinosaurs.
