What is yobai?

Yobai is a traditional Japanese custom in which a man sneaks into a woman's room at night to spend time together without the knowledge of others. This practice is typically associated with rural areas and is seen as a way to initiate romantic relationships or courtship.

Yobai is often considered a secretive and intimate activity, with the man showing boldness and bravery by entering the woman's home without being discovered. In some cases, yobai can lead to marriage if both parties are interested in pursuing a relationship.

While yobai has roots in historical Japanese culture, it is not as common today and is generally not seen as socially acceptable. In modern times, it is more common for individuals to meet and date openly rather than engaging in secretive nighttime encounters.
