What is zhanghenglong?

Zhanghenglong is a genus of long-necked sauropod dinosaur that lived during the Late Jurassic period, around 160 million years ago. The fossils of this dinosaur were discovered in the Shishugou Formation in Xinjiang, China in 2007. The genus name "Zhanghenglong" means "Zhang Heng's dragon", in honor of the Chinese polymath Zhang Heng, who lived during the Han dynasty and made important contributions to astronomy, mathematics, and engineering. The specific epithet "liaoningensis" refers to Liaoning Province, where the dinosaur was discovered. Zhanghenglong measured around 15 meters in length and weighed around 7-10 tons. It had a long neck, a small head, and a relatively short tail. It is thought to have been a herbivorous dinosaur that fed on vegetation such as ferns and conifers.
