What is zhenhuanzhuan?

Zhenhuanzhuan (甄嬛传) is a Chinese television drama series produced in 2011, based on a novel written by Liu Lianzi. The series takes place in the palace during the Qing dynasty and tells the story of Zhen Huan, a concubine who rose to become the empress, while dealing with political intrigue and conflict with the other concubines. The series was well received in China and internationally, and won numerous awards for its performances, direction, and cinematography. It was also highly influential in reinvigorating interest in historical dramas in China.
