Zhigansk is a small town located in the Sakha Republic of Russia, also known as Yakutia. It is situated on the left bank of the Lena River, approximately 350 kilometers northeast of Yakutsk, the republic's capital. Zhigansk is one of the oldest settlements in Yakutia, with a history dating back to the 17th century. The town has a population of around 2,400 inhabitants and is known for its beautiful landscapes and natural resources such as diamonds, gold, and natural gas. The climate in Zhigansk is harsh and continental, with long and cold winters and short and mild summers. Despite its remoteness, Zhigansk has a small airport and is connected to Yakutsk by the Lena Highway, which is open only during the summer months. Agriculture, hunting, fishing, and mining are the main economic activities in the region, and the town is an important trading center for the surrounding villages and settlements.
