What is cd43?

CD43, also known as leukosialin, is a transmembrane glycoprotein that belongs to the sialic acid-binding immunoglobulin-like lectins (SIGLECs) family. It is expressed on the surface of a variety of hematopoietic cells, including B cells, T cells, monocytes, granulocytes, and dendritic cells.

CD43 plays a role in cell adhesion, migration, and activation of immune responses. It is involved in modulating T cell activation, regulating B cell activation and differentiation, and facilitating leukocyte trafficking. CD43 has also been shown to interact with other proteins and cell surface receptors to mediate signaling pathways within the immune system.

Abnormal expression or function of CD43 has been implicated in various diseases, including autoimmune disorders, inflammatory conditions, and cancer. Research on CD43 continues to uncover its potential as a therapeutic target for these diseases.
