Hagryphus is a genus of large theropod dinosaur that lived during the Late Cretaceous period, around 68-66 million years ago. It belonged to the family Tyrannosauridae and was closely related to the more well-known Tyrannosaurus rex.
Hagryphus was first discovered in the Kaiparowits Formation in southern Utah, USA, and was officially described in 2005. The name "Hagryphus" means "Haag's griffin," named after Don Haag who discovered the original specimen.
This dinosaur was estimated to have been around 25-30 feet long and weighed around 2,000-3,000 pounds. It had a large head with sharp teeth, powerful jaws, and strong legs for hunting and chasing prey.
Hagryphus is considered to be an important discovery as it provides valuable insight into the evolutionary history of tyrannosaurids and sheds light on the diversity of these apex predators during the Late Cretaceous period.
