What is kmt?

KMT stands for the Kuomintang, also known as the Chinese Nationalist Party. It is a political party in Taiwan that advocates for a united China, but with a separate democratic government in Taiwan. The KMT was founded in 1912 and played a major role in the Chinese Civil War against the Communist Party of China. After losing the war, the KMT retreated to Taiwan and governed the island under martial law until 1991. The KMT held power in Taiwan for several decades until it lost control of the government to the Democratic Progressive Party in 2000. Today, the KMT remains a major political party in Taiwan, but its influence has dwindled in recent years.
