What is konishiki?

Konishiki, also known as Saleva'a Fuauli Atisano'e, is a retired Samoan-born Hawaiian sumo wrestler. He was born on December 31, 1963, in American Samoa.

Konishiki reached the top division of professional sumo wrestling in Japan in 1987 and became the first non-Japanese-born wrestler to reach the rank of ozeki, the second-highest in sumo, in 1987. He was known for his enormous size and strength, weighing over 600 pounds during his career.

Konishiki was also famous for his outgoing personality and flamboyant style. He appeared in movies, TV shows, and commercials in Japan, and his popularity transcended the world of sumo wrestling.

After retiring from sumo in 1997, Konishiki moved to Hawaii and became involved in various business ventures, including running a sumo stable and opening a restaurant. He remains a popular figure in both Japan and Hawaii and continues to be involved in promoting the sport of sumo around the world.
