Maki, also known as makizushi, is a type of sushi where rice and fillings are rolled in nori (dried seaweed). It's one of the most common and recognizable forms of sushi outside of Japan.

Key characteristics:

  • Ingredients: Typically includes vinegared sushi rice, nori seaweed, and a variety of fillings such as vegetables, seafood (like tuna or salmon), and sometimes egg or meat.
  • Preparation: The ingredients are arranged on a sheet of nori, then rolled into a tight cylinder using a bamboo mat called a makisu.
  • Cutting & Serving: The roll is then sliced into bite-sized pieces. It is often served with soy%20sauce, wasabi, and pickled ginger (gari).

Common types of Maki:

  • Hosomaki: Thin rolls with only one or two fillings, such as cucumber (Kappa maki) or tuna (Tekka maki).
