What is naginta?

Naginata is a traditional Japanese pole weapon that consists of a long shaft with a curved, sword-like blade at the end. It is often compared to a glaive or a halberd due to its design and purpose.

Naginata were primarily used by samurai and warrior monks in feudal Japan as a versatile weapon for both cutting and thrusting attacks. It was particularly effective in mounted combat and against armored opponents.

In modern times, naginata is practiced as a martial art known as "naginatajutsu" or "naginata-do". It is often practiced by women as a form of self-defense and physical exercise.

Naginata competitions are also held in Japan, where practitioners demonstrate their skills in both kata (forms) and sparring matches. The International Naginata Federation promotes the practice of naginata worldwide and organizes international competitions and events.
