What is oruga?

Oruga is a Spanish word that translates to "caterpillar" in English. Caterpillars are the larval stage of butterflies and moths. They are characterized by their soft, cylindrical bodies, and their many legs. Caterpillars are voracious eaters and feed on plant leaves, stems, and other parts. They shed their skin several times as they grow, and eventually transform into pupae or cocoons. Inside the cocoon, they undergo metamorphosis and emerge as fully-grown butterflies or moths. Caterpillars are an important part of the ecosystem, as they serve as food for many other animals. Some species of caterpillars, however, can be harmful to plants and cause damage to crops.
