Reigelwood is a small unincorporated community located in Columbus County, North Carolina, United States. It is located about 30 miles north of the city of Wilmington. The community has a population of approximately 602 residents.
The main industry in Reigelwood is agriculture, with crops including corn, soybeans, wheat, and tobacco. The town is also home to the International Paper Riegelwood Mill, which is a major employer in the area and produces paper products.
In 1995, Reigelwood made national headlines when a train derailed and collided with a tanker truck carrying a toxic chemical, resulting in a massive explosion and fire that killed five people and injured dozens.
Reigelwood has several churches, including Baptist and Methodist denominations, as well as a small community center. The nearest hospital is Columbus Regional Healthcare System in nearby Whiteville.
