What is self-reflexive?

Self-reflexive refers to a form of writing, filmmaking, or any form of art that reflects on its own creating process. It is a technique used to make the audience aware that what they are experiencing is not necessarily a representation of reality, but an artifice, created by the author. It often involves the inclusion of references to the medium in which the work is presented, such as camera angles in filmmaking or words in literature. Self-reflexivity is used to engage the audience more actively with the work, drawing attention to the artifice and challenging the viewer's assumptions about reality. It can be seen as a form of metafiction, where the author purposely draws attention to the fact that what they are creating is fictional and constructed.
