What is skewing?

Skewing refers to the distortion or tilt of an object or image from its true or original position. This can occur due to several reasons such as camera angles, lens distortion, perspective or incorrect scanning.

Skewing is commonly observed in images, especially when the camera or subject is not properly aligned. This error results in the image appearing to be trapezoidal, leaning in one direction or the other.

To correct skewing, image editing software such as Adobe Photoshop or GIMP can be used to straighten the tilted image. The process involves selecting the skew tool and dragging the edges of the image to align it with a horizontal or vertical reference point.

Skewing can also occur in data when there is an unequal distribution of values to one side or the other of the central value. This results in the distribution curve being asymmetric or skewed. It is common in statistical analysis, where it can distort the results of data analysis and affect decision making. In such cases, data transformation techniques can be used to correct for the skewness and obtain an accurate representation of the data.
