What is tdiu?

TDIU stands for Total Disability based on Individual Unemployability. This is a disability compensation program managed by the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) that provides benefits to veterans who are unable to secure and maintain substantial gainful employment due to disabilities related to their military service.

To qualify for TDIU, a veteran must have a service-connected disability rating of at least 60% or one service-connected disability rated at 40% or more with a combined disability rating of 70% or more. The veteran must also show that their disability or disabilities prevent them from securing and maintaining substantially gainful employment.

The TDIU benefit pays the same rate as a 100% service-connected disability rating, even if the veteran's combined disability rating does not add up to 100%. The veteran can still work and earn income up to a certain level without affecting their TDIU eligibility.

It is important to note that TDIU benefits are not automatic and require documentation, medical evidence, and proof of unemployability. Veterans may require the assistance of a VA-accredited representative or attorney to navigate the TDIU application process.
