What is vaq-130?

VAQ-130, also called the Zappers, is a United States Navy electronic warfare squadron. The unit was originally commissioned as Attack Squadron 130 (VA-130) in 1956. It was later redesignated as an electronic attack squadron (VAQ-130) in the 1970s. VAQ-130 is currently based at Naval Air Station Whidbey Island in Washington state and operates the EA-18G Growler aircraft. The squadron's mission is to provide airborne electronic attack capabilities in support of military operations. VAQ-130 has deployed multiple times in support of operations in the Middle East and Europe. The Zappers were awarded the Chief of Naval Operations Safety Award in 2019 for their exceptional safety record.
