What is trimebutin?

Trimebutin is a medication used to treat gastrointestinal disorders such as irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) and functional dyspepsia. It belongs to a group of drugs known as serotonin-agonists, which work by regulating intestinal motility and reducing abdominal pain and discomfort. Trimebutin is available in different forms, including capsules, tablets, and oral suspension. It is usually taken orally, with or without food, as directed by the healthcare provider. The medication is generally well-tolerated, but some side effects may occur, such as nausea, abdominal pain, dizziness, and headache. Trimebutin should not be used in children under five years old or in patients with a history of allergy to the medication or gastrointestinal obstruction. The drug is marketed under different brand names, including Modulon, Debridat, and Trimedat.
