What is trimurti?

Trimurti is the concept within Hinduism that refers to the three primary aspects of the divine manifested as the three gods: Brahma (the creator), Vishnu (the preserver) and Shiva (the destroyer).

Brahma is responsible for creating the universe and all living beings, Vishnu is responsible for preserving and maintaining the universe, and Shiva is responsible for destroying elements of the universe to make way for new creation. Together, they represent the cycle of creation, preservation, and destruction.

The concept of Trimurti highlights the interconnectedness and balance of the universe, as well as the various roles and responsibilities of each of the three gods. Trimurti is often depicted as a trinity, with each of the gods having their own distinct qualities and attributes.

While the concept of the Trimurti is a prominent aspect of Hindu mythology and theology, it is also a common theme in Hindu art, literature, and rituals. Devotees often worship the Trimurti collectively or individually, depending on their specific needs and beliefs.
